What to Expect at Your First Grooming Appointment
Whether it’s your puppy’s very first groom or you’re switching to a new groomer, I know it can feel a bit nerve-wracking. You’re trusting someone with your fur baby! Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what happens when you visit Bizzy Doggy Spa.
Before Your Appointment
When you book your reservation, I’ll ask about your dog’s breed, size, and the service you’re after. If your dog has any health issues, skin sensitivities, or behavioural quirks (totally normal!), let me know in the notes — the more I know, the better I can tailor the experience.
Arrival
Bizzy Doggy Spa is an at-home salon on Buckley Street in Essendon West. When you arrive, it’s just you, me, and your dog — no other dogs in the salon. This one-on-one approach keeps things calm and stress-free, especially for anxious pups.
I’ll have a quick chat with you about what you’d like done, and we’ll discuss the best style and approach for your dog’s coat type.
The Groom
Every full groom at Bizzy Doggy Spa includes:
- Bath with premium shampoo and conditioner (I carry hypoallergenic, natural organic, deshedding, and flea treatment options)
- Full blow dry and brush out
- Haircut and styling tailored to your breed and preferences
- Nail clipping
- Ear cleaning
For nervous dogs or first-timers, I take things at their pace. There’s no rushing, no forcing, and no stress. If your dog needs a break, we take a break. Simple as that.
How Long Does It Take?
A typical full groom takes 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your dog’s size, coat condition, and temperament. I’ll give you an estimate when you drop off and let you know when your pup is ready for pickup.
Picking Up Your Pampered Pooch
This is the best part! Your dog will be looking (and smelling) absolutely amazing. I’ll chat with you about how the groom went, any observations about their coat or skin, and recommendations for home care between visits.
Tips for a Great First Visit
- Exercise beforehand — a tired dog is usually calmer
- Don’t bathe them before — I’ll handle all the washing
- Bring their favourite treat — positive associations are everything
- Stay calm yourself — dogs pick up on our energy!
- Be honest about behaviour — if your dog doesn’t like their paws touched, I’d rather know upfront
